Boisclair, artisan -rembourreur de meubles anciens / Une
passion pour l'art et les antiquités
Tout
a commençé par un baccalauréat en sculpture suivi d'une formation
en rembourrage artisanal. J'ai réalisé par la suite un stage
de perfectionnement en France dans un atelier de tapissiers
d'ameublement, Compagnons du Devoir, spécialisés dans les
techniques de rembourrage de meubles anciens.
De
retour au pays, j'ouvre en 1998 mon propre atelier à Montréal
et depuis 2002 à Hudson, Québec.

Pour
moi, le rembourrage de meubles anciens, c'est comme la sculpture.
Paille, crin de cheval, feutre blanc, étoffes ont simplement
remplaçé l'argile,le plâtre et les patines.
Modeler
une sculpture ou un fauteuil exige le même processus: imaginer
forme et volume, travailler en trois dimensions, sentir sous
ses mains la matière s'additionner jusqu'à l'obtention d'une
forme, d'une oeuvre d'un galbe parfait.
Travailler
sur un meuble ancien, c'est aussi participer avec le client
à la mise en valeur d'une pièce de collection de son patrimoine
qu'il lèguera aux générations futures.

Boisclair, upholsterer of antique furniture A passion for
art and antiques
I established
my own upholstery business in Montreal in 1998. I have been
the owner of a business concerned with art, antiques and upholstery
in the heart of Hudson since June 2002. For me, upholstery
of antique furniture is in reality a form of sculpture. Straw,
horse hair, cotton felt and fabric have simply replaced clay,
plaster, wood.

To
work on a sculpture or an antique armchair involves essentially
the same process: imagining forms and volumes, working in
three dimensions, feeling with your hands the materials changing
and taking shape, as a unique piece emerges which will endure
for many years. My training to become an upholsterer of antique
furniture began with a bachelor of fine arts in sculpture.
This was followed a few years later by a course in upholstery
including antique furniture.

To
work on a project with antique furniture is to participate
with the client in restoring a piece of family heritage that
can be appreciated, used and passed on to future generations.
